Born in Q3-1918 [Newmarket 3b:659], the son of Frederick Charles and Ellen Gertrude PAINE (née MASON) of Stanstead House, The Avenue, Newmarket.

His father died in Newmarket in 1929.

In the 1939 register, at Stanstead House, The Avenue, Newmarket was his widowed mother Ellen G [27-8-1890] later to re marry, to Judah GARCIA in Westminster in 1952.

Ronald was an accountant, being commemorated on the roll of honour of the Articled Clerks of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales


This was the time of the relief of Tobruk. Operation Crusader launched on 18th November 1941.
At this time the 1st Bn KRRC fought almost to the last at Sidi Rezegh, with only 55 men of all ranks escaping the battle where the regiment’s 23rd VC was won. 18 died on the 21st, including Private Beeley V.C. All are buried at Knightsbridge Cemetery




Ronald is buried in Knightsbridge War Cemetery, Acroma, Libya Ref- 10.E.15
